ICEbreaker News Briefs: Detention, Deportation, and Resistance
đ ICE arrested nearly 75,000 people with no criminal records, data shows
Newly released data (obtained through a lawsuit brought against Immigration and Customs Enforcement) reveals a dramatic rise in arrests of people with no criminal history, reflecting a sweeping shift in enforcement priorities. Many of those detained were long-time residents with deep community ties. The increase has raised alarms among advocates who say these practices are straining families and undermining public safety. âIt contradicts what the administration has been saying about people who are convicted criminals and that they are going after the worst of the worst,â said Ariel Ruiz Soto, senior policy analyst at the Migration Policy Institute.â The findings point to a system targeting people indiscriminately rather than focusing on threats. â NBC News
đICE dog attack on WA man should âshock the conscienceâ
A Washington man was mauled by an ICE K-9 during an arrest, suffering severe injuries that required hospitalization. Officials and advocates say the attack demonstrates a disturbing escalation in the use of force. The lawyer for Wilmer Toledo-Martinez said âHe heard the officer say, âHeâs gonna run!â or âHeâs running!â and he didnât even realize what was happening,â ⌠And the next thing he knows is that the dog is on top of him, mauling him. He did not flee. He did not resist.â Senator Murray called for a full investigation and accountability measures to prevent future harm. The incident has intensified scrutiny of how ICE conducts operations in local communities. â The Seattle Times
đ¨ This Prison Rehabilitated Inmates. Until ICE Paid to Fill It With Immigrants.
A remote Nebraska town has become the site of a rapidly expanding immigrant detention operation. âThirteen McCook residents and a former state legislator sued the governor, arguing that the facility was designated and funded by the Nebraska Legislature for the purposes of rehabilitating state inmates, and that Mr. Pillen did not have authority to change that.â â The New York Times
âď¸ San Diegoâs Clergy Offer Solace to Immigrantsâand a Shield Against ICE
Faith leaders in San Diego have mobilized against what they describe as widespread mistreatment of immigrants in detention. Clergy members are organizing vigils, public actions, and direct support for families impacted by enforcement. They argue that current conditions violate moral and humanitarian principles. âBishop Pham feels like whatever happens to immigrants, people are going to be able to say, âThe church stood with me.â The church ought to stand with people when theyâre going up against the odds, against injustice, when theyâre looked at as being expendable, deportable.â Their efforts reflect a growing movement of religious communities demanding fundamental reform to the immigration system. â The Nation

Urgent Calls to Action to hold ICE accountable:
When leaders escape accountability, it signals that powerânot justiceârules, eroding trust, fueling corruption, and opening the door to authoritarianism. Billionaire-backed justices and elites aren't serving the peopleâtheyâre scheming to suppress our voices, strip away our rights, and rule over us. But progress and power to the people is more than an idea; itâs a movement. By standing up, speaking out, and demanding dignity, opportunity, and justice for all, we can build an America that truly lives up to its promise.

ICEbreaker News: The Fight to End Cruelty, Detention, and Fear
ICE isnât just a rogue agencyâitâs part of a larger system of state violence that targets immigrants, tears families apart, and undermines our most basic human rights. Empowered by far-right lawmakers, ICE operates with impunity, weaponizing fear and surveillance to criminalize entire communities.
Fueled by anti-immigrant hate and backed by extremist agendas, ICE's operations reflect a broader push toward authoritarianism. Mass raids, indefinite detentions, secretive deportations, and collaboration with local police all feed into a system designed to intimidate, control, and erase. These tactics donât make us saferâthey make us less free.
ICEâs Pattern of Harm Includes:
Targeting immigrant families through mass raids and surveillance
Detaining asylum seekers in inhumane, for-profit facilities
Collaborating with local law enforcement to bypass sanctuary protections
Abusing detainees and violating basic rights and due process
Using fear to silence communities and suppress dissent
Advancing policies rooted in xenophobia and white nationalism
We Must Act:
ICE is not just enforcing lawsâitâs violating them. Itâs time to dismantle the cruelty, end the detentions, and protect our communities. We must organize, resist, and demand a future rooted in dignity, justice, and liberation for all.
Join us. Speak out. Hold ICE accountable. Together, we can break the cycle of fear.
